Kevin Butterfield Is Our New Associate Pastor
Please join us in Welcoming Kevin Butterfield as Wellspring’s New Associate Pastor!
What you may have missed this past weekend:
Kevin Butterfield has accepted a call by the congregation to serve as an Associate Pastor at Wellspring! Please join us in welcoming the Butterfield family!
After a nearly 9-month relational journey with the Elder Board, Kevin and his wife Kerrie got to know many Wellspringers over the past few weeks. Between the lunches with staff, dinners with elders, breakfasts with ministry leaders, and more–by the time Kevin joined us on the pulpit on Sunday morning to preach, he already felt somewhat like family.
The familial affinity was shared by the congregation on Sunday morning and in the evening reception that was held prior to the congregational meeting. After an interview with the congregation, led by elder Keith Osborne, and a time of question and answer, the Elder Board brought a motion to officially vote on extending to Kevin Butterfield a call to accept an associate pastor position.
The vote was nearly unanimous, and the congregation rejoiced as we closed out the meeting in thanksgiving before the Lord. Kevin has accepted the offer we’ve extended to him.
Who is Kevin Butterfield?
Native of Connecticut, Kevin has a rich ministry heritage that has roots in both New England and the Swedish Baptist movement (where Wellspring’s roots come from). After graduating Nyack College in 1994, Kevin primarily served as the Youth and Next Generation Pastor at Black Rock Church in Fairfield, Connecticut until 2007. During that time he grew the Young Adults ministry, Sanctuary, from 50 to 350 people. In 2007, Kevin and his family followed the Lord’s leading to Australia where he had served as the lead pastor of Yarra Valley Vineyard Christian Fellowship. Kevin and Kerrie describe this as a time of incredible growth and freedom in the Lord. In 2014, the Lord began to speak to both of them about a coming transition. Following the Lord’s prompting, Kevin came to Connecticut in the fall of 2014 to “pray on the ground” and seek God’s leading in a possible transition back “home to Connecticut.”
In a leap of faith at the Lord’s leading, and with no job lined up, the Butterfields left Australia and moved to Connecticut this past spring.
We’ve loved hearing their story, and we’re certain with time that those who haven’t heard it will do so.
Kevin is already settling into his role as Associate Pastor here at Wellspring. He joined the staff on Tuesday for our morning prayer time and is looking forward to getting started in building relationships and ministry over the weeks ahead. If you missed it you can see a job description for his role here.
Kevin, Kerrie, Noah, and Hanna Kate are true treasures and gifts from the Lord for Wellspring during this next season. It’s with open arms that we welcome them and honor what God has uniquely placed in each of them. Give them a warm introduction and greeting as you see them around.
Support the Butterfields:
Over the weeks ahead, we’re asking you to pray for the Butterfields as they settle into work, housing, and registering the kids in schools. For the time being, they will be living in the Meeting Place (parsonage).
