Guatemala 2016 Trip Report
On May 28th, for the fourth year in a row, Wellspring sent an enthusiastic group of adults to Hope of Life in Zacappa, Guatemala for a week of mission work.
As in all the years past, God showed up in supernatural ways in all we did. Providing favor in the arrangement to purchase, and the price of, a new keyboard for the church we have come to support in El Remolino was amazing. Pastor Saul has been bringing worship to unchurched villages but his keyboard had begun to fail, so blessed to be able to help him continue in his work. As always we participated in construction projects, blessing families with food, clothing and this year, lots of donated toys for the children.
For the past two years we have been burdened to paint the building used as a feeding center for the area surrounding the local trash dump. The building is 12 years old and had never been painted. With the constant use it had become unsightly and not a pleasant place to distribute, nor eat, meals provided by HOL. God had delivered this word “My children deserve better than this” to our team two years ago. Not only were we able to paint it this year, but several children who lived there came alongside to help and we were able to share laughter and love with them. The painting of this building seemed rather simple to us but we were to discover that it was the talk of the two villages there. People were amazed that someone thought to do this for them and expressed how loved they felt. The impact of this project, that seemed so simple to us, was humbling. Most pressing need for El Remolino is for the replacement of many family homes that are made of nothing but sticks and plastic bags, excited how God will lead us to be part of the solution. Now to wait to see what next year will bring for another team!
