Clean Water – Guatemala
This past January my husband Bob and I had the opportunity to serve on a medical team through Hope of Life International in Guatemala. While there, God provided a divine appointment and we met Saul Aronovitch. Saul was at HOL to provide water filters to a local village. Tainted water is the cause of countless deaths in Guatemala, as people are forced to consume contaminated water that contain parasites, bacteria, Typhoid and Hepatitis A. As Saul spoke of his project, the Holy Spirit opened the eyes of my heart to see that this man was telling me how we can bring clean water to the village of El Remolino.
Wellspring began a partnership with a pastor, whose name is also Saul, from El Remolino several years ago. Since that time, we have visited many families in the village to bring prayer, supplies, and a message of hope. El Remolino is called a “dump village” as it lies just beyond the local dump and most of the people living there survive by digging through the trash for recyclable goods. During those visits we have seen first-hand the devastation that contaminated water brings to families through malnutrition and illness. It is this village that we can transform through the use of low cost water filters.
Our goal is to purchase 150 filters and buckets to equip each family and the local school with a way to decontaminate their water.
So how can you help?
First, we ask you to be in prayer for this project. Please pray that we attain the necessary supplies and laborers to deliver them, and also that we are able to encourage the local families to consistently use these filters.
Next, you can give toward the purchase of the bucket/filter for a family. The estimated cost to get each unit to a family is $40. For less than the cost of a dinner out, you can transform lives. We challenge you to consider purchasing more than one unit and sow into multiple families lives. Along with this gift of clean water, we also want to bring a message of hope. You will have the opportunity to design a message of hope for your family by way of a sticker that is attached to the unit. Jesus said, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink” (John 7:37). We want to provide for the natural as well as the spiritual needs of these families through prayer and this message of hope.
Lastly, we need laborers to go with us to Guatemala from May 27-June 3 to deliver the buckets, instruct families in their use, and pray with families for transformation of their lives as well as the village. The approximate cost of the trip is $1,900 per person, depending on flight costs. I would love an opportunity to talk to you further and maybe share this amazing journey with you.
