Update from Straight Ahead Ministries
Since June, Rich and Sally Luzietti have been ministering to incarcerated teens in detention facilities all across Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado, providing direct ministry, Bibles, books, resources, and follow-up support to both the youth and the staff. Their message this summer was inspired by a sermon Pastor Wes taught on Psalm 91 and they have been teaching from the opening and closing verses of the psalm:
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
Over the course of the last several weeks, Rich and Sally have ministered to over 120 students and at least 8 staff people, seeing 8 teens already give their lives to Christ and planting seeds in the lives of many others, which they will nurture through personal letters and prayer in the weeks and months to come.
The teens often share prayer requests with Rich and Sally. Below are just a few of these prayer requests; please be praying that God would transform the hearts and lives of these young men and women, breaking off destructive generational patterns and giving them new hope for the future.
Girl (Age 16): I pray that God can get me out of this deep depression I feel that I go through. I pray that he can help me accept him into my life. I pray that he can help my mom and family with the things they have gone through, and help me succeed in my future. I really want to feel happy again, but it’s hard knowing the stuff I’ve gone and been through. I just pray that he will help me forgive those I have not had the strength to forgive, and help me. Please.
Boy (Age 16): Dear Lord, please help me change my ways. Help me quit stealing, and help me with my drug addiction. Lord, I pray for my suicidal brother. Lord, come into his life and change him. Lord, help them to find out what is wrong with my grandpa. Lord, help me get to meet my biological mother and father. In your name I pray. Amen.
Girl (Age 18): Dear God, please help me not want to get high any more. Please help me find something to enjoy that will make me enjoy life so that I don’t have to turn to the easy access of drugs. I believe and trust that you will help me get rid of the immense desire not to be sober. Thank you for every moment you have helped me and unconditionally loved me.
Boy (Age 15): Dear God, I just ask that u help me with my drug addictions and to help me get out of the life of drug dealing and I like to thank you for all the help that you have been giving me since I been here. I like to thank you for the change that I have had already and I like to ask that you help me with getting in school when I get out and with that job I’m planning on getting when I get out. Just please help me stay in my change. Thank you. Amen.
Girl (Age 12): God, I want you to keep looking over me. Make sure that whenever I get out, I do good. And I always wondered if I got in trouble, would you be mad, I guess I figured that out … you’ll never be mad.
Boy (Age 17): I would love for y’all to pray with me because I have a baby on the way and I am going to be locked up when it is born and I would just like prayers that I can be there and everything will be fine with the baby and it’s mother and that my year that I’m going to be behind bars flys by to get home to them and that my family is safe and don’t judge me in a time of need. I love God.
