Women's Retreat Recap

Identity - We Are Who God Says We Are
Saturday, June 7th was a day of breakthrough for several women.  Over 40 women gathered for the Women’s Ministry mini-retreat on the subject of identity.
In addition to the wonderful praise, worship, time alone with God, prayer for each other, meals, and fellowship, we were encouraged by Women’s Leader Andrea Smith, heard a testimony from Carol Rodriguez, and received teaching and insight from Associate Minister Laurie McCarty.

In that teaching, we learned that the names we call ourselves are not often in line with who God created us to be.  In addition, the names that other people and the enemy call us are damaging and derail us as well.

Like the young Hebrew boys in captivity in Babylon, we refuse to be identified by enemy names and all they represent.  We wrote those negative names on cards, shredded them, and gave those names to the Lord.  Freedom!

We also looked at Joseph in Genesis, and his struggle with identity and calling after being taken from privilege and put into servitude and imprisonment.  We looked at Photini, the woman at the well, and how Jesus met her and transformed her identity and calling with a brief conversation. We then revisited Peter as Jesus asks him, “Who do you say that I am?”  As Peter received knowledge from the Father and was able to accurately tell Jesus that He is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, Jesus tells Peter who he is, a leader in the upcoming church.

Our quiet time assignment was to journal a letter to Jesus, telling Him who He is, telling Him how much we love and appreciate Him, and then asking Him who we are.  ‘Who do you say that I am, Jesus?’

The results were life-changing.  The eyes and faces of the women revealed the joy and glow that come from time alone with Jesus, and from His wonderful revelation. Some of our results need further prayer and discernment, as Jesus loves to continue to reveal Himself and ourselves to us.

The results are our greater connection with God, a greater sense of focus in who we are as well as and what gifts and callings He has for us.  When we have clearer vision, we can see who He has made us to be.

It was truly a morning of victory!  If you’d like the teaching notes for this session, complete with Scripture, feel free to email me and ask for the notes at lauriemccarty@wellspring.net
