Everything is bigger this year.
Several years ago, a few churches, sharing a common vision and hope, came together for an event called Purpose. Their aim? To shift the culture of New Britain, impact the way the city operates, unify churches that have long been single-minded on themselves, and to communicate to the city that God is amazing and powerful in his love.
This year, we see increase in every area of Purpose
Over 30 churches have united and made themselves available for this citywide outreach. The hospital, parks and recreation department, police department, transportation department, education department, social services, and many others nonprofit organizations have come under the umbrella of the faith-based community of New Britain. Because of this unity, we expect to reach over 5,000 people on August 17.
Now that’s what I call a cultural shift!
The city and its service departments recognize that their ability to reach those in need is limited. They see what the faith-based community is doing, and they want to do it too. So they’ve invited us to lead the way, and together we can reach people in need and help our community overcome poverty.
A major cultural shift/revival is growing in New Britain. Wellspring will be doing our part, and you should join us on August 17.
Wellspring is overseeing the prayer and intercessors tent, (called the “connections tent”) under the direction of Lucy Snow, and the distribution of free shoes – under the direction of Valerie Vujs. We are also providing music and sound for the event, under the leadership of Andrew Springman.
There will be a kids zone with inflatables and arcade games, free haircuts, and free food. In partnership with the “Convoy of Hope,” which is an Assemblies of God organization committed to “eliminating poverty for a day,” we’ll be giving away groceries. There will also be free family photos.
As a volunteer, your commitment will begin at 8:30am, and go through 5pm on Saturday, August 17th. If you would like to serve, please utilize this web-site to sign-up, or contact Lucy, Valerie, or Andrew, to join the specific areas mentioned above.
Finally, if you are interested in financially supporting this community service venture, you can make checks out to “The Convoy New Britain” and place them in the offering, or you could send them directly to Calvary Christian Center, 65 W. Main St., New Britain, CT 06052. In past years, our budget was a few thousand dollars. This year, it is nearly $40,000.
I look forward to seeing you on August 17th! It is going to be a great day!
