Salt and Light – Sermon Series

Sermon Audio Below!
Jesus loved to grab people’s attention and capture their imagination. He loved to tell stories, use word pictures, metaphors and illustrations to impart truth. After all, He is the creator of the universe. So it’s no wonder that He is creative in his teaching style. I love that about Him.
In Matthew 5:13-16 Jesus uses His creative thinking to teach about our role in the world as His disciples.
He says:
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Jesus says that we are the salt of the earth and the light of world. These are two powerful statements about our purpose and value in our time and in our world. It’s easy to miss all the richness that Jesus is communicating or become so familiar with the word picture that we lose the power of Jesus’ heart for our calling.
We are embarking on a journey of discovering the true desire that Jesus has for us in this passage and how it can impact us today. We will start a new teaching series this Sunday and continue into early July. We will explore the ways we can be salt and light in our world and the connection with our year theme of seeking first the Kingdom of God.
Join us as we continue to discover what it looks like to follow Jesus in the 21st century and seeing His Kingdom come!
