Special Offering for Amirah; and Opportunity to Help with Rehabbing a Safe Home

For many years now Wellspring has been involved in a cooperative ministry called The Underground.  This ministry, supported by a number of churches approximate to the Berlin Turnpike, seeks to rescue women from the sex trade centered in the motels along that route.

Now there is a new development in this effort.  Amirah is a partner ministry to The Underground and is now being established in the greater Hartford area.  Amirah is a multi-faceted aftercare organization for survivors of sex trafficking, providing residential, outreach, and education services.  https://www.amirahinc.org/   Amirah is setting up a safe home for women who have been rescued from the sex trade.  This is a very exciting and needed step forward, providing a safe and secure place for the women to heal and re-establish themselves.

The house has been purchased and 20 different churches are partnering together to rehab different rooms and areas of the house.  Wellspring will be rehabbing one of the bathrooms and a second floor hallway, as well as purchasing window treatments for several of the rooms.  The cost of this project will be approximately $2,500.  We will be taking a special offering for this project this coming Sunday, August 18th.

Click here if you would like to give to AMIRAH via credit card online (look for AMIRAH in the fund category).

The project also needs willing and handy workers for doing the actual rehab work.  There will be a table in the café on Sunday, August 18th for volunteers to sign up to be part of this effort.  If you have any interest, please visit the table after the service.

If you have further questions, you can contact me or Pat Artus or Connie Manner.
