Life Choices by Carol Nicholls
When I spoke Sunday about life choices, I didn’t know what the response would be. You all encouraged me tremendously! So many of you stopped by to get a bumper sticker, and signed up to help brainstorm and tell me you thought it was a good idea. Please, please in your prayers…ask God to speak to you on next steps to get this into the community.
In the 1970s, anti-abortion protests at abortion clinics were often marked by angry rhetoric and sometimes by violence. During that time my heart broke for frightened women facing angry people. While all of this was going on, a sentence started repeating itself in my mind:
“‘To Conceive or NOT to Conceive?’ THAT is the Question.”
I truly believe I have the right to choose what I do with my body. I believe most women want the right to make decisions for their bodies as well. But what women don’t seem to understand is that when she allows a sperm to enter her egg, she has ALREADY made a choice. This is the choice that can lead to abortions. Now I know that sometimes a woman isn’t given a choice and I am not addressing those times. My heart hurts for that too.
But there IS a great need to educate every female, beginning in childhood, that when conception happens she has already made a life altering choice.
In these current turbulent times, I’m convinced that the sentence I have been carrying in my mind all of these years can be a focal point for those who want to take an active role. There is no need to campaign on purity or any religious principle. One might even argue that changing laws on abortion is secondary to changing hearts and minds.
So, I have felt prompted to put my appeal to women on a bumper sticker. My prayer is that these will be distributed among the congregations of Central CT, New England and eventually nationally. Since Wellspring has been my church family for more than 40 years, I want to start my campaign to change hearts and minds here. I am looking for people to brainstorm with me on NEXT STEPS. How do we get this message into the community? I would love to talk with you. I know God speaks to all of us. I am praying that He will speak to enough of us that we can eliminate the need for the majority of abortions. Thank you for your help.
If you would like a bumper sticker or would like to talk to me about next steps, please let me know! You can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call/text at 860-478-6377.
Thanks again to each of you.
