Winter 2022 Donations for the Homeless in New Britain
Wellspring is Collecting Winter Donations on Sundays in the Cafe: Last Day is This Sunday November 13
The days are getting shorter and there is a chill in the air that reminds us winter is around the corner. As we all start to prepare our homes for the onset of colder temperatures, and the inevitable snow that New England experiences, Pastors Dana and Evelyn Smith, of New Life II in New Britain, are trying to ready supplies for those without shelter in the coming months. As Dana said recently, “You don’t buy an umbrella when the rainstorm is here, you prepare beforehand.” So, the time is growing short to be ready!
With all the trials the state of Connecticut is facing, the expectation is that shelters will overfill and fall short this coming season, leaving many to fend for themselves. New Life II hopes to provide a measure of protection through warm jackets and winter items. Wellspring is partnering with them for their November distribution.
All items donated should be either new or very gently used so that the person receiving the item may be encouraged. This is a time to bless someone who may be feeling forgotten and is often treated with indifference. Matthew 25:40 should be our guide: “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” So let us do this as if we were handing these items to Jesus.
Here is the donations list:
Coats
Gloves
Hats
Handwarmers
Scarves
The following items can also be donated with the indicated guidelines:
Sleeping bag- outdoor rated
Blankets- not quilts due to the weight when wet
Tents- smaller size 2-3 person is preferred
We will be collecting the items at a table out in the café after service on Sunday, November 13.
